Common questions
The voice stopped when I locked the screen.
It should not. Pontus loops a silent buffer underneath the cues so iOS keeps the session alive with the screen off. If it stops, check that the ringer is not on silent for media, that Focus is not muting the app, and that battery Low Power Mode is off. Turning on Settings → Phase notifications gives you a second, independent backup.
The session paused on its own.
A phone call, an alarm or another app taking over audio pauses the session. Pontus does not resume by itself on purpose — someone who just took a call was not holding their breath through it. Tap Resume when you are ready.
I unplugged my headphones and the audio died.
It should rebuild itself within a moment. If it does not, pause and resume.
Where do my tables come from?
From your personal best. CO2 keeps the hold constant and shortens the rest each round; O2 keeps the rest constant and grows the hold. Every value is rounded to a whole five seconds. Run a new personal best test and regenerate to move them. A training program uses the same two tables, asking for a little more each week.
What is a training program?
A schedule that decides which table to run on which day, so you do not have to. Four weeks or eight, with rest days built in and a personal best test at the start and the end. Each week asks for a little more than the one before. It is a fixed plan, the same for everyone who starts it, scaled only by your own personal best — it is not advice about you, and it cannot tell how you feel. Skip a day, repeat a week or stop the plan whenever your own judgement says to.
I missed a few days of my program.
Nothing breaks. The plan follows the calendar, so missed days show as missed — and after two of them the plan screen offers to shift the whole schedule forward, which picks it up where you left it rather than making you start again.
Why will my program not tick a day off?
A day closes only when you finish the table it asked for. A CO2 table on an O2 day is a real training record, and it will appear in your history, but it is not the day the plan prescribed. Stopping a session early does not close a day either.
What are contractions, and why mark them?
The involuntary pulls of the diaphragm that arrive partway into a hold. Tap the ring during a hold to mark each one — no looking, no button to find. Pontus records them with the round they happened in, shows the first one on the session summary, and charts how that first one moves over time.
Can I get a reminder to train?
Yes — Settings → Reminder, at a time you pick. It is free, it repeats daily, and it is a local notification like every other one in Pontus: nothing is sent anywhere.
I bought Premium and it is not unlocked.
Tap Restore purchases on the paywall or in Settings → Premium, with the same Apple ID you bought with. If it still does not appear, email us with the date of purchase.
Can I move my history to a new phone?
Only through an iPhone backup. Pontus has no account and no server, so restoring your new phone from an iCloud or encrypted local backup brings everything with it. A fresh install starts empty.
Does Pontus work underwater?
No, and it must not be used that way. Pontus is for dry training on land. Never hold your breath in water alone; always train with a trained partner who is watching you.
Does Pontus collect any data?
No account, no tracking, no ads, and none of your training data. Your bests, tables and sessions stay on this device. Pontus does send anonymous crash reports and usage counts so faults can be found and fixed — turn them off in Settings → Privacy & legal. The privacy policy says exactly what they contain.
Safety
Breath-hold training carries real risk. Train lying down or seated on the floor, never while driving, standing, or in a bath or pool. Stop straight away if you feel dizzy, faint or unwell. Pontus gives no medical advice — talk to a doctor before training if you have a heart or lung condition, or if you are pregnant.
