Terra Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how LiJordan ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the Terra mobile application ("App") on Android and iOS.

By using Terra, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account or log in via Google or Apple, we may collect:

• Email address
• Display name
• Profile photo URL

If you sign in with Apple and choose "Hide My Email", Apple provides us with a private relay address instead of your real email address, and we never receive the latter.

1.2 Device Information

We automatically collect:

• Device type and operating system version
• App version
• Anonymous usage analytics

1.3 Camera Data

When you use the plant recognition feature, we access your device's camera to capture images. These images are processed to identify plants and provide information. We do not store these images on our servers after processing, unless you explicitly save identified plants to your collection.

1.4 Plant Recognition Data

Information generated from the plant recognition feature:

• Identified plant species names
• Scan dates and timestamps
• Image references (if saved to collection)

1.5 Location Data

With your permission, we may access your device's location to:

• Center the map on where you are
• Check which medicinal plants may exist in your area
• Provide location-based plant insights

On iOS, your location never leaves your device. It is used only to center the map, to work out your climate zone from a climate map bundled inside the App, and to place the plant sightings you add to the map. Those map pins are stored locally on your device only — they are not uploaded to our servers and are not synced between your devices.

On Android, your location coordinates may in addition be processed through an external AI service to provide plant-related results.

You can disable location access in your device settings at any time. The App works without it; only the map's “my location” and “herbs in your area” features stop working.

1.6 Recipe Generation Data

When you use the AI recipe feature:

• Selected herbs and ingredients
• Health concerns you specify
• Generated recipe content

This data is processed through AI services to generate personalized herbal recipes.

1.7 Cloud Sync Data

If you sign in with your Google account, the following data is synced to Firebase Firestore:

• Your profile information
• Your saved herb collection
• Your saved recipes (including AI-generated recipes)
• Your plant scan history

Your AI chat history is stored only in the app's local database on your device and is not uploaded to our servers. Deleting the app removes it.

1.8 Advertising Identifiers and Tracking

Terra is supported by advertising for users without an active subscription. To serve ads, our advertising partner may access:

• Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android)
• Coarse device and network information used to select and measure ads

On iOS, we ask for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any tracking identifier is used to serve personalized ads. If you decline, the App keeps working and you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized. You can change this decision at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, we present Google's certified consent form (Google UMP) on first launch, where you choose whether your data may be used for personalized advertising. Users with an active Premium subscription see no advertising at all, and the ads SDK is never started for them.

1.9 Subscription and Purchase Data

Premium subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never receive or store your payment card details. We receive only the purchase and entitlement status needed to unlock Premium features on your account.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information collected is used to:

• Provide plant identification using AI technology
• Display information about medicinal properties and uses
• Generate personalized herbal recipes based on your selections
• Provide location-based plant insights
• Store and display your herb collection and recipes
• Improve the accuracy of plant identification
• Sync your data across devices
• Display relevant advertisements to users without a Premium subscription
• Process in-app purchases and subscriptions
• Diagnose crashes and errors
• Communicate important updates

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Firebase: Authentication, Firestore database, Analytics, Crashlytics, and App Check
• Google Gemini AI / Vertex AI: Powers plant identification, information retrieval, and recipe generation. Photos and prompts you submit are processed by Google solely to produce results returned to the App; Google does not retain them for model training under the Vertex AI data processing terms.
• Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In: Account authentication
• Google Maps: Displays the map. To draw the map, Google receives the areas of the map you are viewing. We do not send your location to Google.
• AdMob (Google Ads): Displays advertisements. AdMob may derive an approximate location from your IP address.
• Google UMP: Manages your consent for personalized advertising
• Apple StoreKit (iOS) and Google Play Billing (Android): Processes in-app purchases and subscriptions

4. Data Security

We protect your data using:

• Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
• Encryption of data at rest in Firebase Firestore
• Secure authentication through Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In
• Firebase App Check to prevent unauthorized access to our backend

However, no method of data transmission or storage is completely secure.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data directly in the App via Settings → Delete Account, or request deletion by contacting us
• Portability: Request your data in a portable format
• Withdraw consent: Change your advertising tracking choice in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads)
• Opt-out: Sign out to stop cloud synchronization
• Location: Disable location access in device settings

7. US State Privacy Rights

Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other US states with privacy legislation have additional rights:

• Right to Know: Request information about collected personal data
• Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information
• Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell your personal information
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate for exercising your rights
• Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate information

8. Children's Privacy

Terra is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected on this page with a new "Effective Date."
